I know this site is supposed to be about sound politics, and I have a tendency to focus on national issues, but I have to say this today because my belly is full. Bush authorized leaks via Scooter Libby. Essentially (and we’ll have to see how this plays out) he is the man that authorized the leak of Valerie Plame. Bush said that he would fire anyone involved in the scandal, so I’m wondering if he’s going to fire Cheney before he resigns. The men in charge of our country have authorized treason, and one more day for them in office is another day that democracy rots in its grave. Today I can truly say that I am absolutely ashamed to call George Bush my president. The son of privilege, using his lies and his stupid smirk to sell his bogus programs, wars, and agenda. There’s no way to spin out of this, and I wait with baited breath to hear his talking heads try to do so. This is truly a black day for America.

Perhaps someone can address a nagging question I've not had the time to investigate: is Bush guilty of a treasonous crime if Libby's claims are proven?

I'm not sure of the legal issues. The President is authorized to declassify information, but I'm not aware of the stringency of the protocol in doing so. If Libby in fact was authorized by W, is it in fact a leak constituting treason? Or is it Scooter just passing declassified information along in the worst form of bad taste?

My pessimistic side tells me that White House lawyers cooked this one up a while ago as a contingency loophole, to be used as needed. It could put the Administration in a bad light for fibbing, sure, but the numbers suggest the public will forgive or forget. It's a relatively safe bet. And even if it did get too hot as a result, they can revert to raising the terror alert (though not too soon! you don't want to waste it too far from the elections)

Since we're on topic, did I mention I know who really killed Kennedy?

Well Che, looks like your BS has proven once again to be unfounded. But hey, it's not like anyone looks to a dope smoking 30 something paralegal, whose crowning accomplishment is 'serving under Clinton' in the armed forces. All the while focusing on failed aspirations as a musician rather than being a father to your child.

loser
