URGENT! Your Latte May Be Destroying the Moral Fabric of America!

Submitted by grant on March 29, 2005 - 10:16pm.

Do you get your daily fix from Starbucks? Well, before you get your next cup, beware!

Not only are they responsible for The Worst Song of All Time (WARNING: We Built this Starbucks (On Heart and Soul) is NOT for the weak of heart, the elderly or pregnant women!), but they're destroying this country with every foamed cup of caffeine goodness!

Yes, if you're a patron you might have noticed the current ad campaign they're running on the side of their cups - "The Way I See It".

The way Marty Mallet of North Richland Hills, TX "sees it", those little phrases on the side of your double-tall are responsible for gay marriage, Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction and the Dirty Sanchez (okay, maybe not that).

Mary Says:

"The way I see it, Starbucks is now pushing ever more than before toward the left and becoming more outspoken. It is making it clearer every day that it is increasingly for the destruction of family values and virtues....Now that Starbucks is declaring itself a moral and political spokesperson, it can get its money from liberals.

Cups have included quotes from such notables as Denis Hayes
(Chairman of the Earth Day Network), Al Franken (whose quote wasn't even remotely political), and documentary film-maker Ken Burns.

Of course, the quote from paleontologist Dr. Louise Leakey was really trying to subvert the moral fabric of America by implying something about this thing called "evolution". Heard of it? Noah Metz of Martinez, CA was pretty damn pissed that Starbucks subversively told him he was"related to a monkey".

The way I see it? This kicks ass.

Read it all here

(Thanks to Wonkette for alerting me)

I have a thought for Noah Metz and everyone else who sent Starbucks mail saying they had a divine spark and were not related to a monkey. First of all, we've all see that picture of your Great Aunt Mildred picking at a nit and she looks remarkably like an Chimpanzee to me. Second of all, there is evidence that there were humanoid species before there was an evidence of their culture. (Where did the spouses of Adam and Eve's kids come from?) Something happened along the way that caused this explosion of record--cave paintings, creation of a standard written language, and creation of a standard history and mythology. What it is that caused this is open to debate, but what if it was that divine spark that you think you have? Why does it have to be either evolution or creation? Personally, I think you put the two of these together and you have a monster of a theory that would be hard to disprove.

Huh? I should think that if the theory of evolution does anything it helps to place more value on human life. What with the implication that all life is connected through its antecedents if nothing else.

Al Franken biased? Uh, yeah, but then again aren't Coulter, Hannity, O'Reily and the rest of the Fox News/conservative media biased also? It might be fun to see Anne Coulter quoted on the side of a Starbucks cup though. What would she say, "The way I see it is local coffee shops and independent roasters are dens for traitorous, liberal wimps, ugly feminists that can't get a date and washed up cry baby Democrats whining about the stolen election. Get with it we won! All real patriotic, god fearing Americans buy their coffee from global corporations like Starbucks."

Adrienne, your comments make a lot of sense... but from my observation, people who believe adamantly in a strict, literal interpretation of the Bible will never go for any sort of idea like that so it's not going to stop people from making comments like Mr. Metz'.

A sidenote: An old friend sent me an instant message with a link to a page with some interesting cartoon strips... they were obviously targeted towards Christian children and were in the line of thought of "teachers are evil if they teach about evolution or say that it's ok to be gay; school is evil because we can't talk about religion or pray there". It was a little scary. I don't know about you, but when I was in high school biology, my teacher taught me about the scientific theory of evolution, and told us that we didn't have to believe it, we just had to learn about it. Is that so difficult or complicated?

Another sidenote: if anyone is interested in an interesting book about one theory on the whole "explosion of record--cave paintings, creation of a standard written language, and creation of a standard history and mythology" as Adrienne puts it, I recommend "Sex, Time, and Power". It's interesting. Note: anyone who is outraged at the thought that they are descended from a monkey will probably not like this book.

Are you Anne Coulter? You really nailed her perception of the world.

Thankfully no, but I do have to admit I enjoy watching or reading her screeds now and again. I makes me wonder how she got so crazy and how she keeps the weight off. My guess is a strict diet of gin, diet pills, camel lights and non-stop jaw-jabbering. Maybe the massive calorie deprivation causes the right-wing wackoism.

seriously though, Ann is totally a guy. have you seen those hands? i'm not trying to be a jerk, but i really actually think that Ann is a guy who's had a sex change. look at the hands on this picture:

Those hands are GINOURMOUS! And what about those arms? I have to admit I have not seen Ms. (perhaps previously Mr.) Coulter walking lately, usually her boney frame is parked securely behind a pundits desk, but I cannot see how those lanky arms don't drag their knuckles along the ground when they walk. It would be interesting to see Anne take on a lobster ala the classic Seinfeld "Man Hands" episode.
