Hail Square-y, full of grace.

So now we have a conservative ex-Hitler Youth pope. I don't want to totally say he's a Nazi, since he did desert towards the end of the War, and he's also the second ever Jewish pope. But what I do want to say is that, being an ex-Catholic myself, that we do not need another anti-contraceptive, anti-homosexual and gay marriage, and anti-woman priest pope. Good thing is that he's already pretty damn old.

Remember the good ol' days of liberal Catholics like JFK? Well the tide is shifting towards conservatism in the American Catholic church, which only adds to our bullshit moral majority bible-belt conservatism problem which, gulp, legitimately re-elected GWB.

Maybe we'll see a Vatican III in our lifetime which will open it's doors to gays, women priests, condom users, and hippies. After all, Jesus was a gay hippy who might have well have been a woman and never reproduced.

since i'm not catholic, i could really care less about almost all of their teachings. if they don't want to ordain women, then that's their choice. if they don't want to allow gay marriage, then they don't have to.

however, as a human being on this planet, their anti-contraceptive stance really bothers me. the largest percentage of catholics now live in some of the poorest countries in the world. the vatican should realize that, for the good of these catholics and for the world in general, the time has come to embrace family planning.

uh... where did you hear that this pope is/was born jewish? i haven't heard that anywhere. also, membership in the Hilter youth was compulsory for children during the Nazi control of Germany. he was allowed to leave since he was studying to be a priest.

cnn.com provides a pretty good summary of his life:

I believe there's confusion between Ratzinger and France's Cardinal Jean-Marie Lustiger. The latter was a pope candidate and was born Jewish, but didn't get called in from the bullpen. They wanted the Righty, apparently.

He's not Jewish. I misheard that somewhere. Sometimes when I'm drunk I blog. I also make grammatical errors of which I am dirtily ashamed. And yeah, he didn't make a very good Nazi; he rarely attended Hitler Youth meetings.
