Cantwell leads in early poll (updated)

Submitted by chrisz on August 9, 2005 - 9:05pm.

The Hill (A newspaper for and about the Congress) reports: that in an early poll Senator Catwell leads her presumed GOP opponent, Mike McGavick, by eight points.

Honestly, I would like to see it a little bit larger, but I'll take eight points. It will be interesting to see what happens once the rest of the State knows who Mike McGavick is, and has some kind of an opinion of the former insurance executive.

Here is Washinton State polling topline results.

This is good news Chris, but can you give us more numbers from the poll? Was it a straight horse race? Did they say anything about Cantwell's re-elect number or support for the President amongst respondents? Who commissioned the poll? Do they give any demographic or geographic breakdowns of where they pulled the data?

Polls can be so much fun!

Too bad we can't vote for a real Democrat. Ms. Cantwell has voted for Big Business friendly-bills far too often for me to vote for her with any enthusiasm. But a vote for her is a vote against BushCo, so half a loaf it is.

This is Strategic Vision, which is a GOP polling firm. They routinely showed the 60-40 loser George Nethercutt within 7 points of Patty Murray, even into the last two weeks when it was obvious he was done. So add a couple points in either direction and you've got your true numbers.

Let's wait to see an Elway poll or SUSA poll to get a real feeling for where we stand.

Our first vote is the PRIMARY. We could vote for a real progressive, Mark Wilson, http://votemark.org instead of DLC centrist Maria Cantwell.

Here are your real choices for the PRIMARY

If you think Maria is 100% OK, then vote for her.

If you think Maria has taken too many stands you don't like (NAFTA, CAFTA, Alito, Big Business, IRAQ WAR support, PATRIOT ACT) but still think that she will probably win the primary anyway, then VOTE FOR MARK to send her a message. (If you are so sure she will win the primary, then you have nothing to lose by sending her a wake up message to change her tune.)

If you are tired of voting for centrist, me-too, DLC, won't take a stand Democrats, then vote your principles - vote Mark Wilson this primary. He just might win!

And if you like Maria but don't want another 50/50 recount in Washington State, vote for Mark Wilson. He will not be losing progressive Democrat votes like Maria. And he will get the Green voters (because they won't run a Candidate if he wins the primary). And he has a message for the independents (Maria Cantwell has NO ISSUES on her website at all, much less a message for independents).

Independents will swing the vote in Washington State once again.

IF MARIA WINS THE PRIMARY, then Maria will lose part of the Democrat base, all Republicans will vote for their candidate, and the independents will vote for neither.

Think about it. Do you want to win this time or see another recount?
