Cold War 2

Submitted by Oversight on September 22, 2005 - 2:26pm.

I recently read in Vice Magazine of all places that China and Russia have been engaging in joint military exercises. This only adds to the worry caused by China's declaration in July to drop nuclear bombs on "hundreds of American cities" if we follow through on our commitment to defend Taiwan. Any thoughts?

I think both countries recognize the value of working together. Russia's got mineral wealth and China's got economic wealth. They developed a supersonic torpedo together a few years ago, and I think they've been doing joint exercises for awhile. I read a bunch of IR papers by further-left scholars as part of a course last year debating what Russia's "best options" are to counteract our power grabs related to NATO and the Mideast.

Kinda scary.
