AKA: Yes, I subscribe to the MoveOn.org email list, too

Okay, so I'm on the MoveOn.org email list. However, can I point out that I blogged about this weeks ago before you call me a band-wagon jumper? Thanks.

In honor of the Conservative move to eliminate all federal money for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting within two years let's have our first Caption Contest!

What did Laura Bush tell these kids on her recent apperance on Sesame Street? You fill in the blank:

Filibustering, Fake-Newsweek Reports, War-Profiteering... what a weak week! Alas, what was the weakest of the week?

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting taking on PBS!

Moyers Warns of the Increasing Influence of the Right Wing on PBS and NPR

In a follow-up from my post yesterday, here's a Bill Moyers speech from May 15th 2005 which discusses the increasing influence of the Bush Administration on the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) and their attempt to silence good reporting on PBS/NPR.

It's a RealPlayer file from C-SPAN. I encourage everyone to listen to it if they care about the future of these great institutions. Moyers is a great speaker and I loved it.

I believe this clip will only be up for 15 Days.... Can anyone archive it and Private Message me about it?

The Last Straw - Conservatives Declare War on NPR

Submitted by grant on May 15, 2005 - 7:20pm.

Okay, you mu#$@f&*kers have gone too far.

I can take rising national debt.

I can take the attempt to dismantle Social Security.

I can take the diminished stature of our image abroad.

I can take the widening gap between the rich and poor.

I can take all these things because, while they make me grit my teeth in pain and disappointment, I know that things will change. I know that, in the end, no matter how screwed up things get, eventually a more compassionate and progressive America will come to fruition.

But, you bastards better not touch NPR.

The New York Times Reports:

WASHINGTON, May 15 - Executives at National Public Radio are increasingly at odds with the Bush appointees who lead the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

In one of several points of conflict in recent months, the chairman of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which allocates federal funds for public radio and television, is considering a plan to monitor Middle East coverage on NPR news programs for evidence of bias, a corporation spokesman said on Friday.

The corporation's board has told its staff that it should consider redirecting money away from national newscasts and toward music programs produced by NPR stations.

I can't read this whole article without being blinded by pure rage. I can't handle it. If you ass-hats touch Robert Siegel, Melissa Block, Bill Moyers, All Things Considered, Steve Scher, Ross Reynolds or anyone else involving NPR or, by result, KUOW I swear I will flip off the handle Hulk style. (You can, however, have Ruby de Luna. Good luck with that one.)

UPDATE (5/16/05 1:34pm) Read a great speech by Bill Moyers here regarding the increasing presure by the far-right against PBS/NPR.

The entire New York Times article can be read after the break:
